Welcome to "School for Dogs..."
...also known as "Diamonds in the Ruff".
As a young person Lisa realized her fascination with training dogs and wanted to learn everything she could about how they think and how to
communicate with them. Having dogs in the family her entire life and
witnessing the birth of three litters she was amazed by their instincts,
development and how they relate to one another. This spurred a passion
that continues to this day.
Lisa pursued her career beginning with volunteer work at a local kennel.
Within a few weeks she was hired as a full time employee and after one
year became Assistant Manager. During her time at the kennel she not
only had the opportunity to interact with lots of different dogs and
observe their behavior but also learned proper care, grooming techniques,
and administering medication including injections. It was at the kennel
where she met a co-worker who participated in obedience competition.
Lisa spent free time with her and eventually the two began a basic obedience
course at the kennel. She also attended 3 seminars held at National
K-9.
From there, Lisa went on to helping out at a new training facility that was opening nearby and enrolled at National K-9, School for Dog Trainers in Columbus, OH. She graduated a rigorous Master Trainer Course, receiving certification in all aspects the course offered.
Shortly after graduating in 1997, Lisa created Diamonds in the "Ruff" for the purpose of educating pet dog families about the animal they love. Her mission is to help people understand and respect their animals for who they are in order to have a great lifelong relationship.
Lisa continues her learning primarily from the dogs in her care; observing their relationships, reactions, & body language to utilize in giving direction & developing their potential. Additionally, reading books, magazine articles, & watching TV programs of various philosophy, technique & approach to be able to offer the best course of action for any student. Most recently in July 2006, Lisa attended a Cesar Millan seminar in Columbus, OH.
